NATS want Nicola Sturgeon to “negotiate” with Westminster about Scotland going it alone — even if IndyRef2 never happens.
SNP MP Angus MacNeil and councillor Chris McEleny say she should push for a split without a referendum if the next PM refuses permission for one.
The pair have drafted a motion for October’s party conference saying a pro-indy majority at the next Holyrood or UK elections should act as a “mandate for the Scottish Government to commence independence negotiations with the UK Government”.
Last night Tory MSP Maurice Golden accused the Nats of wanting to “break up the Union without even asking Scotland first”.
And Pamela Nash, of campaign group Scotland in Union, slammed the resolution by Western Isles MP Mr MacNeil and Mr McEleny — a member of the SNP’s ruling body — as “astounding and “reckless”.
She added: “Trying to get independence through the back door will not wash.
Jeremy Hunt will include Ruth Davidson in Brexit talks if he’s PM – but Sturgeon gets snubbed
“It’s wrong for the SNP to assume a vote for them is always a vote for independence.
“The majority of Scots want to remain in the UK, including a third of those who voted Yes in 2014. It is clear they are ignoring those they claim to represent.”
Ms Sturgeon has outlined plans to call IndyRef2 before the 2021 Holyrood elections.
But both Jeremy Hunt and Boris Johnson have said they will refuse to grant the power to hold another vote if they win the keys to No10 this month.

The SNP’s 62 Scottish Parliament seats combined with the Greens’ six means there is currently a pro-indy majority at Holyrood.
A Nats spokesman said: “There is a cast-iron mandate to give people in Scotland the option of becoming independent in a referendum.
“Given the way Scotland’s interests have been ignored in the Brexit process, it’s no wonder support for the SNP and for independence is rising.”
