SCOTTISH Labour faces near-wipeout at the next Holyrood and Westminster elections, a senior party source has admitted.

The top politician said the party’s seven MPs north of the border and scores down south are doomed if PM Boris Johnson delivers Brexit before we next go to the polls.

There are fears Richard Leonard’s Scottish Labour will struggle in any future elections

They claimed Jeremy Corbyn is in the “endgame” of his leadership amid a civil war over anti-Semitism — and predicted Scottish leader Richard Leonard would “almost certainly” follow him down.

And the parliamentarian revealed many party figures despair at their chances in 2021 at Holyrood, where they have 23 MSPs, as well as the next UK vote — due in 2022, but a possibility within months.

The insider said: “If Boris delivers Brexit before a General Election you end up with the Brexit Party vote shifting to the Tories.

“That could take them up to 40 per cent, leaving us trailing behind on about 20 per cent.

“Then you’ve got the invigorated Lib Dems under Jo Swinson. She’s very able and dynamic and would be popular with the public.

“If the Corbyn project collapses at a UK level, the Leonard project will almost certainly collapse with it — if it ever got off the ground.”

The source said Mr Corbyn is past the point of no return amid a furious backlash over anti-Semitism at the top of the party, Labour’s dire Euro election results and his poor personal approval ratings.

Declaring his time “almost up”, the insider said: “It’s the beginning of the end for him.

“If you look collectively at the party’s position on Brexit, allegations of anti-semitism and the worst European poll result in Labour history, he has to be on the way out.

“Add that to Corbyn’s terrible personal approval ratings — the worst of any Opposition leader since they started measuring it — and the party’s dwindling membership, it looks like his time is almost up.”

An SNP spokesman said: “As ever, Labour are more interested in fighting among themselves than in stopping Boris Johnson and the threat of a No Deal Brexit.

“People in Scotland no longer trust Labour to beat the Tories.”

Scottish Tory chief whip Maurice Golden said: “Under Corbyn’s leadership they have lurched from crisis to crisis and are now set to betray the result of the Brexit vote.

“Add the fact they would sell out the Union in a heartbeat and it’s unsurprising voters in Scotland are abandoning them.”

Labour has been rocked by anti-Semitism claims since Mr Corbyn became leader in September 2015.

A BBC Panorama documentary earlier this month exposed abuse allegations by former staffers.

And last week Labour peers including Scots Lord George Foulkes took out a full-page newspaper ad attacking Mr Corbyn.

It said his “legacy” has been to make the party “no longer a safe place for all members and supporters, whatever their ethnicity or faith”.

Labour did not respond to request for comment.
