MHAIRI Black has called out David Mundell after the Tory made a U-turn on claims that he’d never serve under Boris Johnson.

The Secretary of State for Scotland backtracked on his previous statement following yesterday’s ballot in the Conservative leadership contest.

Mr Mundell previously stated in December that he would be unable to work under the current frontrunner, saying: “Mr Johnson and I don’t agree on a whole range of issues and I don’t see myself being able to serve in that way.”

But the Dumfriesshire MP squirmed yesterday as he claimed he would never rule out serving in the former Foreign Secretary’s cabinet.

And SNP MP Ms Black mocked Mr Mundell over the U-turn – with a “canny shove your granny off a bus” quip.

The Nat tweeted: “I have never said I would push my granny aff a bus, but I’ve been very careful not to rule it out, regardless of whether or not she’s my mammy’s mammy.”

Mr Mundell revealed yesterday he voted for Health Secretary Matt Hancock in the first ballot to select a new Tory leader.

Three contenders – Mark Harper, Andrea Leadsom and Esther McVey – were knocked out of the running in the first round.

Mr Johnson received 114 votes, while closest rival Jeremy Hunt came second with 43 and Michael Gove was third with 37.

Two candidates out of the remaining seven will be chosen for a final vote by Conservative Party members later this month.

The winner of the race to succeed Theresa May as Prime Minister is expected to be announced in the week of July 22.
