THE SNP has warned Boris Johnson they will help stop the “madness” of a No Deal Brexit.

Nats Westminster chief Ian Blackford also told the new PM his hardline policies could mean he will be the UK’s “last Prime Minister”.

His blast came after Mr Johnson, in his first Commons speech as Premier, claimed Britain can become “the greatest place on Earth” after he delivers Brexit on October 31, with or without a deal.

After his frenzied delivery, Mr Blackford said BoJo was living “in a parallel universe”, adding: “It looks as if he’s about to launch himself into outer space.”

The SNP boss accused him of preparing to plunge the country into “economic madness driven by ideology”.

He said: “A new deal from the EU is the stuff of fantasy.

“Time and time again Europe has made it clear the Withdrawal Agreement is not open for negotiation.

“The PM has no plan. He is full of bluff and bluster. But the consequences of his fantasy land will have devastating consequences.”

Mr Blackford warned Mr Johnson not to try to take the UK out of the EU on No Deal.

He said “This House will not let the PM do untold damage to jobs and constituents. Parliament will stop this madness in its tracks.”

And he claimed the PM’s new Cabinet appointments — including right-wingers Priti Patel and Dominic Raab as Home Secretary and Foreign Secretary — meant his government was “becoming more extreme and out of touch with Scotland by the day”.

Mr Blackford vowed: “Scotland will not stand by and let decisions be taken by charlatans on our behalf.

“If Boris Johnson continues down this disastrous road, he will be the last Prime Minister of the UK.”

He also urged the PM to “do the honourable thing” and call a snap General Election to “let the people of Scotland have their say”.

But Mr Johnson laid into the Nats over their indy plans and “pessimism” about “our wonderful UK”.

He said: “If we can deliver a fantastic, sensible and progressive Brexit and the whole UK comes out, as I know that it will, what happens then to the arguments of the SNP?

“Will they seriously continue to say Scotland must join the euro independently?

“Will they seriously suggest Scotland must submit to the entire panoply of EU law? Is it really their commitment to hand back control of Scottish fisheries to Brussels, just after this great UK has taken back that fantastic resource?

“I respectfully suggest that is not the basis on which to seek election in Scotland.”

Mr Johnson claimed a new deal with the EU that abolishes plans for an Irish backstop was “possible — even at this late stage”.

He said: “We will throw ourselves into these negotiations with the greatest energy and determination in a spirit of friendship.

“We are going to prove the doubters wrong again.”

But Irish premier Leo Varadkar has already insisted a new Brexit deal is “not going to happen”.

In the Commons Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn accused Mr Johnson of “directly flouting the express will” of parliament by continuing to pursue a “reckless No Deal”.

And new Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson tabled a motion of no confidence in his government. But the result of September’s vote won’t be binding as her party is not the official opposition.

Labour accused her of “childish games”.
